Frequently Asked Questions about  Black Bear Lake Day Camp, Clarksburg, New Jersey

  1. When is the 2010 Camp Season?
    The 2010 Black Bear Summer Season runs from June 28th through August 20th, Monday through Friday.
  2. What are the summer hours?
    The BBL Buses arrive to camp no later than 9 AM, and pull out promptly at 4 PM. Before/After camp child care is available upon request.
  3. What is "Express Central Pickup" and "Parent Drive To/From Camp"?
    Receive a $350 discount per 6-8 week camper ($250 discount per 4-5 week camper) by meeting the bus at a local shopping center or school near your home (subject to availability in your area- some areas are strictly Central Pickup due to distance). Provide your own transportation for your child and recieve an $850 discount for 6, 7 and 8 week campers ($600 for 4 and 5 week campers).
  4. How short is the bus ride?
    Buses pick up between 8 & 8:30, and drop off between 4:20 and 4:45. The average bus ride to and from camp is 20 to 30 minutes. Many areas have "EXPRESS Central Transportation" pickup and drop-off options.
  5. Do you offer "before & after camp" care?
    YES- At BBL you can choose "before/after camp care" in lieu of transportation. The hours are from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm.
  6. How many campers will be in my child's group?
    Approximately 12 to 15 campers (Cubs - 8 campers) of the same gender and grade. Elective activities are broken down into "divisions" of 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, 5th/6th grade, 7-9th grade.
  7. How many staff are in the group?
    One "Group Leader" (College Jr./Sr.); 1 to 2 "Junior Counselors" (HS Jr./Sr.); Cubs, 3 staff members.
  8. Who teaches the activities?
    Adult school teachers/professionals with teaching experience. Real coaches, real artists.
  9. What do you do on Rainy Days?
    At Black Bear Lake... THERE IS NO RAINY DAY SCHEDULE. You heard right! Indoor activities continue as normal, outdoor activities move to our 15,000 square feet of covered areas, as their Adult Specialists run Bingo tournaments, Indoor Scavenger Hunts, 200 Board Games, Movies (with popcorn) and much more.
  10. Do we have swim instruction?
    YES. 5th grade and younger, required; 6th to 9th grade, elective. (Besides our unique BBL "Free Swim")
  11. What is the lake used for?
    The big lake is primarily for boating -- row boats, kayaks, canoes, pedal boats, banana boats & surf-bikes. The smaller lakes are for fishing -- Bass, Sunnies, Pike, Perch, Blue Gill, Catfish and Carp.
  12. What ages attend Black Bear?
    4 years old (pre-Kindergarten in Sept.) to 15 years old (entering 10th grade in Sept.).
