One-of-a-kind Program
Does your child like Sports? Fishing? Horseback Riding? Pottery? Performing Arts? Boating or Rocketry?
At Black Bear Lake, CAMPERS CHOOSE their favorite activities and participate in them on a daily basis for a week, while still enjoying fun group activities like Swim, Group Choice, Lunch, and Special Event activities every day. A camper who enjoys Soccer can play every day, under the supervision of a trained professional. The same goes for any of our vast selection of elective activities. Campers can change their electives each week, or choose the same ones each week. If a camper like Horseback Riding, they can choose it every week of the summer for one of their elective activities.
No other summer camp program allows so much customized flexibility. As a result, our campers return year after year all the way through the 10th grade!

- No other summer program allows such customized flexibility. As a result, Black Bear Lake campers return year after year, from First Grade all the way through Ninth Grade.
- At Black Bear Lake we place campers in small groups by grade with a camper to staff ratio of 4:1. Campers are supervised by adult Division Leaders, college aged Group Leaders and high school aged Counselors. Activities and electives are run by experienced teachers and coaches.
- Electives are chosen by campers and their parents every Monday for the following week. Campers go to the same electives every day for the week. Each week, they can choose new electives, the same electives, all sports, all performing arts, or a wide variety of everything. We pride ourselves on the adult staff who run our elective classes including local teachers, coaches and other qualified professionals.
- It is our goal that each camper makes significant progress in terms of instruction in a fun-filled and safe swimming environment. Campers have Swim Instruction each day in our 3 heated pools taught by our certified Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguards. Campers are tested on their first day of camp and 3 swim reports are sent home throughout the summer. Using our proven American Red Cross Fish Level Swim Instruction Method, there is no doubt in our mind that your childs swimming ability will improve once they experience the BBL Swim Program! Those campers in 5th grade and up are not required to participate in swim instruction - they can sign up for swim instruction with their electives, in addition to Swim Team, Scuba Diving, and Junior Lifeguard Training. And of course, our swim program is included in your tuition.
- Group Choice is a fun daily activity that the group chooses along with their Group Leader. There are over 30 choices each day including sports like Gaga, Volleyball, and Kickball, and crafts like Lanyard, Keychain Making, and Banner Design. Other activities include Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero, Playground, Sandbox and Flag Football.
- All campers have an afternoon Free Swim to cool off. During this time, campers can have free play supervised by our staff. Activities include Gaga, Volleyball, Playground and Sandbox. Campers are allowed to swim for part of the period, then play for part of the period. On very hot days, campers are scheduled an additional free swim to stay cool.
- Every day has a fantastic Special Event planned for each division. Events include group bonding games like Minute-to-Win-It, Scavenger Hunts and Color War, individual contests like Bubble Gum Blowing, Seed Spitting, and Foul Shooting, as well as fantastic entertainment from all over the country like Camplified, The Unique Game Show, and The Reptile Guy! Children have an easy time making friends at Black Bear Lake, because they meet other campers their age while participating in the activities that THEY choose and enjoy. BBL campers learn new skills, while refining their present talents with the widest variety of athletics, performing and fine arts found anywhere.

- Each week, campers get a listing of more than 40 exciting activities to choose from.
- Campers choose 4 electives [campers entering 1st grade to 4th grade] or 5 electives [campers entering 5th to 9th grade] and will participate in them during the period assigned for the week Monday through Friday.
- The next week, they can choose all new electives, or the same activities again.
- Campers also enjoy two swims in our heated Olympic-size pools (towels provided!), group choice periods, exciting special events and delicious hot lunches (included).
