Job Descriptions
Division Leader
The Age Group Commander & Camp Connector
Are you a proven adult leader or teacher ready to command a division, mentor staff, and be the critical communication link for an entire unit? Black Bear Lake Day Camp seeks highly organized professionals to step into the role of Division Leader (DL). As the Commander of your age group, you are fully accountable for the unit’s success, directly supervising all counselors and campers in every aspect of their camp experience. Division Leaders meet with the Directors before and after camp each day to review all crucial information regarding group dynamics, camper well-being, and scheduling adjustments. As the primary liaison, you are also responsible for all contact with camp families, beginning with the pre-camp phone call. Because DLs are constantly in the field with their campers, they develop an intimate knowledge of each child, enabling them to communicate personally and intelligently with parents about any situation that may arise. This position is the key to ensuring a smooth, safe, and unforgettable summer for staff and campers alike.
Group Leader
The Ultimate Camper Mentor & Vibe Manager
Are you a high-energy college student ready to step up and lead? Black Bear Lake Day Camp seeks dynamic individuals to become Group Leaders (GLs)—the front-line leaders and most important role models for our campers. As a Group Leader, you are directly responsible for the physical and emotional well-being of your group, typically consisting of around 15 campers. In most cases, you will co-lead this group alongside a Camp Counselor, providing mentorship and shared supervision. You are the Vibe Manager! You supervise the staff working with you, ensuring the group dynamic remains positive, inclusive, and outrageously fun all day long. This is a chance to gain invaluable leadership experience, practice team management, and guarantee that your campers are safe, heard, and having the best possible summer. Join us to make a direct, memorable difference every single day!
Counselors
The Ultimate Role Model & Memory Maker
Ready to be the reason a camper calls this the best summer of their life? Black Bear Lake is looking for energetic, enthusiastic, and responsible students to join our team as Camp Counselors. This is the most crucial frontline role, responsible for the emotional and physical well-being of every camper in your group. In most cases, you will co-lead your group alongside a college-age Group Leader, forming the essential bond that often dictates how much a camper loves their time at camp. We seek individuals who are naturally active, patient, warm, friendly, fun, and energetic. To meet our strict hiring criteria, applicants must be turning 16 years old in the calendar year AND be entering their Junior year of high school (minimum requirement). Counselors must demonstrate exceptional listening skills and possess a genuine ability to relate to children, sincerely prioritizing their needs and making them feel safe and heard. Join us to make lasting memories and be the ultimate role model!
Specialists
The Expert Instructor & Program Innovator
Are you an expert in your craft ready to share your passion and shape an entire program? Black Bear Lake seeks dedicated Specialists—the full-time instructors who are the engine of our exciting elective camp! As a Specialist, you possess expertise in a specific activity (from Archery to Woodworking) and are entrusted with the physical and emotional well-being of every camper attending your program area. While we provide a comprehensive curriculum, we are actively looking for specialists who want to become true program owners—you are encouraged and empowered to add your own innovative ideas and expertise to develop the activity further, all while staying true to the Black Bear Lake philosophy of fun, safety, and encouragement. Join us to lead, teach, and make your unique program the best it can be!
