When is the Camp Season?

When is the Camp Season – Black Bear Lake’s 2021 camp season is June 28th – August 20th

What are the summer hours?

The BBL Buses arrive to camp at approximately 9 AM, and pull out promptly at 4 PM. Before/After Care is available upon request.

What is the 'BBL Hub', and 'Parent Drive To/From Camp'?

Black Bear Lake offers HUB STOPS. These buses head directly to Camp after their pick-up and when leaving camp in the afternoon go directly to the HUB STOP. After boarding at the stop, the bus goes directly to Camp without making any other stops along the way. HUB STOPS are between 15-25 minutes, the shortest trips possible. We offer this in all of the areas we service.

Each Black Bear Lake bus is designed to provide maximum comfort and safety. All buses are air-conditioned and equipped with seat belts, cell phones and tracking devices. Each bus is driven by a New Jersey CDL-certified driver and is supervised by a bus counselor to ensure the safety and welfare of our campers.

How short is the bus ride?

The average bus ride to and from camp is 20 to 30 minutes. Many areas have Hub pickup and drop-off options. Buses pick up our campers between 8:00 am and 8:30 am, and drop off between 4:30 pm and 4:45 pm.

Are the camp buses air conditioned?

YES, all BBL buses are fully air conditioned for a cool ride to and from camp.

Do you offer Before & After Care?

YES, at BBL you can choose Before/After Care. The hours are from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm.

How many campers will be in my child’s group?

How many staff are in the group?

One Group Leader (College Student) and 1 to 2 Junior Counselors (HS Jr./Sr.); Cubs have one Group Leader and 2 Junior Counselors per group.  In addition, 2 certified teachers (Division Leaders) oversee the entire Division.

Who teaches the activities?

Adult school teachers/professionals with teaching experience. Real coaches, real artists.

What will the Daily Schedule include?

Black Bear Lake’s unique and innovative Elective Program allows you and your child to choose the activities they want. Your child has the opportunity to develop new friendships and bond with campers who have similar interests. Every Monday, you and your camper select the electives online for the following week. They go to their chosen electives every day of that week. Projects begin on Monday, and are completed by Friday, ready to bring home as a lasting memory of their great summer at BBL. Campers have the option to choose the same electives as the previous week or try something completely new! They may choose all sport electives, or all fine art electives, or any combination imaginable. From favorites like gaga or mountain tubing, to culinary arts or water trampoline, the choices will provide your child with a variety of options and new experiences!

Campers in Lower and Junior Camp get to choose 4 first choice options and 4 second choice options. Senior and Upper Camp pick 5 first choice options and 5 second choice options. It’s all up to you!

  • Electives are chosen by campers and their parents every Monday for the following week.
  • They go to these electives every day – so if they start a project in Woodworking on Monday, they are finished with it by Friday.
  • Each week, campers may choose the same electives as the previous week, they may choose all sport electives, or all fine art electives, or any combination imaginable – it is up to you!
  • Many of our campers choose at least 1 elective activity throughout the summer to get an indepth exposure – like learning a different pottery technique each week like wheel throwing, coiling and pinching.
  • Campers choose 8 elective options and rank them 1-8. Lower and Junior Camp will receive 4 electives. Senior and Upper Camp will receive 5 electives.
  • Top choices are received approximately 95% of the time.
