Roars

Once upon a time, in a camp not too far away, there were campers making us proud! We thought about how we could show them our appreciation for their kindness, spirit, and determination. The ROAR was born.

As teachers, parents, and professionals, we knew that helping and modeling our core values would help to motivate children to be kind, compassion, empathetic, and respectful, and to accomplish their goals!

Roars have been instrumental in fostering positive behavior, building self-esteem, and empowering our campers to repeat these positive acts and spread these values in all aspects of their lives.

HOW DOES A CAMPER EARN A ROAR?

  • DEMONSTRATING ACTS OF KINDNESS & EMPATHY
  • SHOWING DETERMINATION TO ACHIEVE GOALS AND TRY NEW THINGS
  • SUPPORTING AND ENCOURAGING OTHERS
  • SHOWING SPIRIT & TEAMWORK
  • RESPECTING DIFFERENCES.

At Black Bear Lake, we continue to encourage our campers to #BeTheNiceKid. Respect for others, trying your best, and doing the “right thing” are personified throughout camp.

ROARS serve to remind our campers that these two qualities are all that it takes to be successful, both at camp and in life.

ROARS are distributed every Friday at lunch. Campers and staff members nominate each other for ROARS which promotes a selfless recognition of others and an attitude of gratitude.

As the saying goes…“it is better to give than receive.” Getting a ROAR is an awesome feeling, but giving ROARS to others is an even better feeling!
