Director/Owner

At Black Bear Since 2010

Simply put—Ian is camp, and camp is Ian.
Ian’s journey began as a camper, then grew into roles as counselor, Division Leader, and administrator at a traditional day camp in New Jersey. Since the age of three, he’s only missed two summers at camp—proof of just how deeply it’s in his DNA.
With a true hands-on approach, Ian’s leadership, energy, and spirit shine through in Black Bear Lake’s rich traditions, exceptional staff, and top-quality program. An active member of the American Camp Association, Ian frequently attends and contributes to industry events and conferences, always looking for new ways to elevate the camp experience.

A graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Economics and a concentration in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, Ian brings both heart and expertise to his role. He lives in Howell with his wife, Dara—whom he first met at summer camp!
Most of all, Ian loves connecting with people. Whether it’s new families, returning families, alumni, staff, or anyone who wants to talk about camp—you can always count on Ian to share his passion.

Rob

Assistant Camp Director

At Black Bear Since 2023

Rob’s camp journey came full circle when he returned “home” to Black Bear Lake in 2023 after two years in Colorado with Avid 4 Adventure—a summer program dedicated to helping kids and teens reconnect with the power of nature and the outdoors.
As a former Group Leader at BBL, Rob knows firsthand what makes camp so special. Now, he’s back to make sure campers and staff have an unforgettable experience. His main focus is hiring and staffing—acting as a mentor, coach, and cheerleader for the amazing BBL team. Rob also works closely with Ian and the Programming Team to create special events and keep the summer running smoothly, all while making sure every day at camp is filled with fun, energy, and positive vibes.

Alycia (also known as “ABC”)

Programming Supervisor

At Black Bear Since 2008

Alycia, aka “ABC” began her Black Bear Lake journey as a Cubs Group Leader and worked her way up to Division Leader of Junior Camp through 2023. She now serves as our Programming Supervisor, creating engaging and dynamic curriculum for the wide variety of exciting electives our campers enjoy each summer. Alycia also gets to share the magic of camp with her own children, Braxton and Quincy, who both started their adventures as Cubs! Outside of camp, Alycia is a veteran English teacher with 17 years of classroom experience. She loves spending time with her husband, kids, and their three dogs.

Jenn

Office Manager

At Black Bear Since 2012

Jenn is the voice you hear when you call Black Bear Lake. She began her journey at BBL in 2012 as the Transportation Director and has since expanded her role to become the Camp Office Manager. Jenn manages the day-to-day operations of the camp office focusing on enrollment, registration, and database management. In her years at BBL, Jenn has developed a deep appreciation for the transformative power of camp and the lasting impact it has on campers and staff alike.
