Oh Hi!

As part of our “intentional programming” here at Black Bear Lake and our commitment to advancing our 21st Century Skills initiative, we UNPLUG here at camp. It is our strong belief that taking a break from the overload of technology that invades all of our lives is a good thing! Plenty of time for that during the “off-season!” At Black Bear Lake, we UNPLUG! Campers and staff alike… no cell phones, computers, ipads, etc… Just good old face to face communication and personal interaction. Camp like it ought to be!

Together, our well-trained staff and supportive parent community will offer our campers’ daily opportunities for the development of core competency skills that will serve them well moving forward. In today’s fastpaced, electronic world, we very possibly may have “lost” something valuable! Research tells us that today’s kids in America spend nearly 60 hours per week looking at screens! TV screens, smartphones, computers, video games and more… We even back our cars up now using screens! Don’t get us wrong, much of this electronic obsession has brought with it advancements in many useful and productive ways, but in our estimation, we need to pause and take a break from it all. We need to make sure that we don’t lose “touch” with one another…

The great American summer camp experience allows for that! As we see it, camp is uniquely qualified to offer this wonderful opportunity!

Yours in camping,

Ian
